•  What is the message of Joel?

Conviction: So What?

•  Where does this fit?
•  Joel is a reminder that God does not forget or fudge on His covenant promises.  They will be
fulfilled to the letter (Pestilence = Locust, followed by Invasion= Army cf. Lev. 26:21-26;
Deut. 28:38,42).

•  Joel provides a clear picture of the discipline of God’s people and the judgment of His enemies.

•  Joel reiterates participation in covenant blessing and the fulfillment of God’s covenant promises                  comes only through the working of the Holy Spirit.

•  What should we believe?

•  The Lord is serious about sin and its consequences.

•  The Lord fulfills His promises literally and completely.

•  The Lord will pour out His Spirit in order to bring His plan to a completion.

•  Everyone who calls out to Him, He will save.

•  How should we behave?

•  Turn from your sin and repent before the consequences get any more severe.

•  Be filled with the Holy Spirit; He is your only hope.

•  Call on the name of the Lord.

Next Steps
•  Repent in order to avoid judgment or discipline.

•  Believe that God is faithful to do everything He promises.

•  Trust Him with your very life.

Home Church
Our Home Churches meet weekly to facilitate quicker relational depth, study the same passage taught
Sunday to help apply Scripture in the context of community, and pray with one another.

Home Church Questions

•   Read Joel 2:1-11 and 2:28-32.

•   Was there anything new or insightful in this message?

•   Was there anything you know you can or should immediately apply?

•   What did you struggle with in this message?  What did not make sense or caused you to evaluate your own life more deeply?

•   How would your life personally, or the life of your family be different if you fully lived out the truths in this message?

•   Talk about a time when the discipline in your house  resulted in the increased severity of consequences. (You can talk about you as a child or you as a parent).

•   There is an “already, not yet” feel to much of the book of Joel.  Some judgments have been seen in shadow form but will come in fullness in the future.  Some blessings (like access to the Holy Spirit) have been inaugurated but will be fully experienced in the future.  How does that make you feel?  Disappointed? Hopeful? Frustrated?

•   The climactic scene in Joel is one of God’s presence with His people.  How can we take advantage of God’s presence with us today?
