• What is the message of Obadiah?
Conviction: So What?
• Where does this fit?
- Obadiah portrays the reality that sin has consequences and that God will ultimately judge all those who oppose Him and rebel against Him, especially those who are proud.
- Obadiah clearly presents the message that God’s people will ultimately be vindicated and restored to a place of blessing, even if the world does not cooperate.
- Obadiah uses Edom (םֹדֱא) as a paradigm of what will happen to anyone in all of humanity (םָדָא) who remains in opposition to the Lord and His people - they will be judged.
• What should we believe?
- God is just, and He will repay all who have done evil in His sight.
- God is patient, but He will not be patient forever.
- Ultimately, God will set everything right in the world, and justice will be done.
• How should we behave?
- Be patient and leave justice in the hands of God.
- Look to “Mt Zion” because that is where deliverance is found (17, 21).
- Trust God to take care of everything that needs to be taken care of.
Next Steps
• Lay down your desire for revenge. Give it to the Lord, who will be just.
• Look forward to all that God will do to “set things right” in the world.
• Keep your focus on the “kingdom that will be the Lord’s”.

Our Home Churches meet weekly to facilitate quicker relational depth, study the same passage taught
Sunday to help apply Scripture in the context of community, and pray with one another.
Home Church Questions
• Read Obadiah 1-21.
• Was there anything new or insightful in this message?
• Was there anything you know you can or should immediately apply?
• What did you struggle with in this message? What did not make sense or caused you to evaluate your own life more deeply?
• How would your life personally, or the life of your family be different if you fully lived out the truths in this message?
• The Edomites felt secure, high in the rocks of Edom. What “rock-like” structure might we base our security on?
• What “injustices” have you experienced? How did it impact you both in the short term and in the long term?
• Why does vengeance feel so good?
• Why is waiting for vengeance so difficult?
• Pride and gloating were issues for Edom. Have either of these ever been an issue for you?
• What would it require of us to leave justice in the hands of the Lord?
