Context: Who, Where, When and Why?
• Who composed Jeremiah?
• When was Jeremiah written?
• Where were he and his audience? • Why was he writing?
Content: How and What?
• How is Jeremiah organized?
- Judgment on Judah and Jerusalem (1:1-29:32)
- The New Covenant (30:1-33:26)
- The Final Days of Jerusalem (34:1-40:45)
- Judgment on the Nations (46:1-51:64)
- The Fall of Jerusalem (52:1-34)
• What is the message of Jeremiah?
Conviction: So What?
• Where does this fit?
- A clear example of a prophetic ministry that was truthful, passionate, obedient and
unsuccessful. Response is not the measure of success or faithfulness to God.
- A sample of the emotional ups and downs of the life of one of God’s servants.
- In the midst of dark days, judgment and lack of response to God and his word, The Lord still has a plan that He Himself will accomplish that gives us hope.
• What should we believe?
- God will judge unbelievers and discipline believers.
- God has a plan to bring a restoration of His rule through an internal work of His Spirit in the lives of His people.
- Sin is serious and salvation is a work of the Spirit pointing us to the Savior - Jesus Christ.
• How should we behave?
- Turn from sin, repent, embrace God’s grace and live for Him.
- Be willing and prepared to stand against the society slide away from God. Hold your ground based on the truth of God’s word.
- Don’t be shocked by rejection and persecution.
Next Steps
• Make the New Covenant Promises (esp. Jeremiah 31:31-34) a part of your overall biblical worldview.
• Ask yourself where you have grown deaf to the Word of the Lord.
• Jeremiah, very unpatriotically, encouraged the nation to surrender to the Babylonians. Consider where you need to accept God’s discipline in your life.

Community
The Christian faith was designed to be lived out in community. Spiritual growth happens as believers come together to read Scripture, pray, and serve alongside one another. Fellowship desires everyone to find that community, and the primary way this is achieved is through our small group ministry called Home Church. A Home Church is comprised of 12-16 people who gather weekly and discuss how to apply the word of God to their lives. Plan now to prioritize one evening a week (typically Sunday or Wednesday evening) to join others in community to encourage, sharpen, and spur one another on in faith. You will be glad you did! Sign-ups begin the first of August.
