Midianites - The Illustrated Bible Dictionary

Gideon and His Boys - Danny Hays

Introduction: Terminal Idolatry

The Oppression of the Midianites (6:1-6)
The perpetual idolatry of God's people
leads to relentless discipline from God's hand.

The Revelation of the Lord (6:7-10)
The Lord is faithful to send reminders of His faithfulness.
God's people should rehearse and know the stories of His faithfulness.

The Arrival of the Angel of the Lord (6:11-12)
The Lord sees the end from the beginning in spite of our fear.

The Questions of Weak Faith - Tribes (6:13-16)
The call and presence of the Lord is the answer
to our questions of weak faith.

The Initial Steps of Weak Faith (6:17-26)
The Peace of God is the reward of genuine worship.

The Opposition of the World (6:27-35)
The comfortable world (even Christians)
cannot tolerate obedient faith.

The Requests of Weak Faith (6:36-40)
Weak faith requires a confirmation from God.
Strong faith unhesitatingly obeys; first time, every time.

Next Steps
Truth:
The Lord is worthy of our obedient faith.
Warning:  Perpetual idolatry leads to relentless discipline.
Challenge:  Obey the Lord; first time, every time.
