Introduction:  September 11, 2001, and the Book of Judges

The End of a Faithful Generation - Spiritual Victors (2:6-9)
Experiencing God firsthand leads to faithfulness and results in victory.

The Appeal of Cultural Values - Generation Degeneration (2:10-13)
Failure to experience God firsthand dilutes faithfulness and results in idolatry.

The Character of God - A Monotonous Downward Spiral Begins (2:14-19)
When we are unfaithful God is faithful to discipline and save.

The Consequences of Sin - A Just Response from the Lord  (
2:20-3:4)
Forsaking God and following other values (idols) has disastrous consequences.

The Increasing Slavery of Our Sin - A Sad Summary (3:5-6)
The decline of the family leads to spiritual failure.

Habitual sin and generational drift from God
leads to idolatry and results in God's discipline.

Next Steps
Truth:  God often tests His people in order to train them.
•  Warning:
Disobedience leads to discipline.
•  Challenge:  Faithfulness to God is always the right path to take - no matter what, when, or how.

Home Church
Our Home Churches meet weekly to facilitate quicker relational depth, study the same passage taught
Sunday to help apply Scripture in the context of community, and pray with one another.  Home Church helps our body seek God’s best for one another.

Home Church Questions

•  Read Judges 2:6-3:6 again.
•  What stands out in this passage or from the message?
•  Talk about the tension between God's compassionate pity and  God's justifiable anger.  One commentator likened it to a spouse who is deeply in love, finding out the other was cheating on them.  Is that a helpful comparison?
•  Idolatry is a big issue in Judges.  What are some contemporary idols?
•  You can tell who you serve by looking at your bank account.  What does that reveal about us personally?
•  When have you been aware that God was "testing you" in order to train you?
•  No matter what stage of life you are in, investing in your family is vitally important.  In what ways did you invest in your family this month?
