The Doctrine of Election - Wallace

The Great Plan of God - Moo

Introduction: The Ministry of the Holy Spirit in Romans

Holy Spirit:
The Holy Spirit intercedes for us
when we don't know how to pray.
(Romans 8:26-27

•  Our Condition: We are weak and stupid, but not alone (8:26).
•  His Attention: The Holy Spirit knows our heart and God's will (8:27).
•  Their Intercession: The Holy Spirit prays for us (8:26-27) and Jesus prays for us (8:34).

God the Father
The Father guides all things to accomplish His good purpose
which is our full and final redemption.
(Romans 8:28-30)

•  God's Purpose: God sovereignly guides everything to accomplish Hisgood for us. (8:28)

•  God's Plan: God's "ordo salutus" culminates in our glorification. (8:29)

 - Foreknowledge:  God's decision/choice to love us.

 - Predestination:  God's decree/will to save us.

 - Calling:  God's personal invitation for us to believe

 - Justification:  God's declaration/acceptance of us as righteous.

 - Glorification:  God's complete transformation of us.

Life in the Spirit
is supported by the intercession of the Holy Spirit
and the sovereign plan of God.

Next Steps
•  Be more intentional about your prayer life knowing the Holy Spirit is
interceding and even "correcting" our prayers.
•  Rest in the knowledge that God is sovereign over every event in your life. Recognize that His desire is for those events to conform us to the image of Christ.

This Week’s Growth Guide
God’s Word is both central and critical to your spiritual growth. We invite you to utilize the Growth Guide during the week to further your application of the Truth from the message.

Tuesday - Romans 8:12-17
Wednesday - Romans 8:18-27
Thursday - Romans 8:28-36
Friday - Romans 8:37-39

Home Church
Our Home Churches meet weekly to facilitate quicker relational depth, study the same passage taught
Sunday to help apply Scripture in the context of community, and pray with one another.  Home Church helps our body seek God’s best for one another.

Home Church Questions

•  Read Romans 8:26-30.
•  What was the main point of the message this week?
•  Has anyone ever read A Pilgrim's Progress?  What was it like?
•  How is your prayer life?
•  What makes it hard for you to pray?  What motivates you to pray?
•  What are some of the things you have learned about prayer that have been an encouragement to you?
•  How is it encouraging to know that the Holy Spirit (8:26-27) and Jesus (8:34) are interceding for us?
•  How have you experienced Romans 8:28 in your life?
•  Romans 8:29-30 can be very controversial.   Without getting into all the details and trying to solve all the     theological issues (seriously avoid that) talk about what the impact of these verses really should be in     our sanctification.
