"Now This Is Life"  (Part 2)
(Romans 8:1-11)

Introduction: A Brief Pneumatology

Eternal Benefits: No Condemnation
Christians are free from any kind of condemnation and
can expect victory in Christ and through the Spirit.
(Romans 8:1-4)

•  The powerless work of the Law leaves us dead (8:3a).

•  The powerful work of Christ brings freedom and life (8:1-4).

Present Benefits: Life in the Spirit
Christians can experience life and peace in the Spirit.
(Romans 8:5-8)

•  Living controlled by the sinful nature leads to death and hostility.

•  Living controlled by the Spirit leads to life and peace.

•  The importance of mindset/worldview is determinative.

Future Benefits: Assurance of Resurrection Victory
Christians will experience final deliverance from sin in the resurrection.
(Romans 8:9-11)

•  The Spirit identifies Christians (8:9).

•  Christ, through the Spirit, empowers us to live righteously  (8:10).

•  The Spirit guarantees our resurrection (8:11).

Life in the Spirit
is a life of vitality and harmony
rooted in a grace filled worldview.

Next Steps
•  Commit yourself to regularly reflect on your full pardon received on the basis of Christ's work on the cross.
•  Develop a worldview controlled by the Holy Spirit's application of God's Word to your life in the midst of biblical community resulting in Christlikeness.

This Week’s Growth Guide
God’s Word is both central and critical to your spiritual growth. We invite you to utilize the Growth Guide during the week to further your application of the Truth from the message.

• Monday - Romans 8:1-11
Tuesday - Romans 8:12-17
Wednesday - Romans 8:18-27
Thursday - Romans 8:28-36
Friday - Romans 8:37-39

Home Church
Our Home Churches meet weekly to facilitate quicker relational depth, study the same passage taught Sunday to help apply Scripture in the context of community, and pray with one another.  Home Church helps our body seek God’s best for one another.

Home Church Questions
•  Read Romans 8:1-11.
•  What was the main point of the message this week?
•  Talk briefly about the difference between the indwelling of the Holy Spirit which is permanent, and the filling of the Holy Spirit, which comes and goes.
•  Our responsibility is not to "do" a bunch of things in our own effort if we are to be controlled by the     Spirit.  We are to "set our mind on" the things of the Spirit. This is not a doing, but more of a yielding or     submitting.  What does that look and feel like?
•  How are the righteous requirements of the law met in us?
•  How do we "set our minds on what the Spirit desires"?
•  When we "live by the Spirit" the result is "life andpeace."  When have you experienced living by the     spirit?  What is it like?
•  When have you experienced life and peace?  What is it like?
•  How does the hope of resurrection motivate you?

A Time to Celebrate
Sunday, February 7, during both worship services we will pause our study through Romans for one week to celebrate as a church family all that God has done through our Generations Campaign.
We will have worship and a message as normal, but will take time to remember God’s faithfulness
and share how we have seen Him providing.

New to Fellowship?
We are so glad that you joined the Fellowship Family to worship this morning.  If you are joining us for the first time or have been checking us out for a few weeks, we are excited you are here and would love to meet you.  Please fill out the “Connect” section of your bulletin, tear it off, and bring it to the Connection Center in the Atrium, we would love to say “hi” and give you a gift.

Elder Recognition
Charlie Bates and Todd Watkins, two candidates for elder who have been recommended by our elder board, are being presented to the Fellowship family for consideration.  Our desire is for everyone who calls Fellowship home to take the insert from their bulletin, fill it out, and drop in an offering basket on your way out. Two options of response:  Yes, I can follow his leadership; No, I cannot follow his leadership.  If you have concerns that should be looked into before confirming either as an elder,  please use the space provided and sign your name.

Soup-er Bowl food Drive
On a day when we watch the big game and celebrate with more food than most football teams could consume, let’s join together to help bless others through our Soup-er Bowl Sunday!  Food items such as hearty soups, canned chili, spaghetti, spaghetti sauce, tuna helper, canned meats (tuna, chicken), and Knorr brand pasta are needed to help restock the food pantry of Bethlehem House, one of our local ministry partners. Simply bring one or more of these items and drop it off at church on Sunday, Feb 7th or if you are worshipping with us online, you can bring them to the Ministry Office on Thursday (8-4:30 p.m.) or Friday (8:30-2:00 p.m.) the previous week.

Girlfriend’s Bible Study - One study, two options
There’s still time to be part of the Women’s Colossians study.  This Wednesday, January 27, noon, join women at Fellowship for an in-person study (masks required) led by Susan Woole. Or join in on week 2 of the study via Zoom, Thursdays at 7 PM with Heather Harrison. Sign-up for either at fellowshipconway.org/register. Childcare for Wednesday’s study available via RSVP to Shanna at shann@conwaycorp.net.

Home Church
Start the New Year in a Home Church where you will build deep relationships with other believers as you study God’s Word, pray together, and serve alongside one another. We believe that God intended for people to live in community.  Questions?  Contact Michael Harrison mharrison@fellowshipconway.org
