God’s Judgment and God’s Law - Stott

Start Where You Are - Swindoll

Introduction:

Ignorance of the law is no excuse (1:18-32).

Knowledge of the law is no exception (2:1-3:8)

Warning: The Moralist (2:1-11

Judging brings judgment so…
replace public attack with personal assessment.

Warning: The Secularist (2:12-16)
Revelation brings responsibility so…
do what you know is right.

Warning: The Legalist (2:17-29
Promoting the truth brings a higher standard so…
embrace incarnation and transformation over information.

Warning: The Rationalist (3:1-8)
Judgment glorifies the Judge so…
beware of making excuses for your behavior.

The rejection of God’s standard and revelation
leaves each of us equally condemned before God.

This Week’s Growth Guide
God’s Word is both central and critical to your spiritual growth. We invite you to utilize the Growth Guide during the week to further your application of the Truth from the message.

Tuesday - Psalm 14
Wednesday - Psalm 15
Thursday - Psalm 51
Friday - Romans 3:9-20

Home Church
Our Home Churches meet weekly to facilitate quicker relational depth, study the same passage taught
Sunday to help apply Scripture in the context of community, and pray with one another.  Home Church helps our body seek God’s best for one another.

Home Church Questions

•  How is everyone really doing this week?

•  Read Romans 2:1-3:8.

•  What was the main point of the message this week?

•  We are all sinners. Admit it.  Which group do you tend to identify with most often?

•  Why is it so hard to examine our own hearts rather than judging others?

•   Ultimately, Paul is going to conclude that no one does what they know they should.  Do you agree with that?

•   What does it mean for each of us to embrace incarnation and transformation over information?  This is really the point of home church.

•   What kind of clever excuses do we make for our sins?
•   How does God’s grace motivate us to obey Him and live for Him?

We are so glad that you joined the Fellowship Family to worship this morning.  If you are joining us for the first time or have been checking us out for a few weeks, we are excited you are here and would love to meet you.  If you would fill out the “Connect” section of your bulletin, tear it off, and bring it to the Connection Center in the Atrium, we would love to say “hi” and give you a gift.

Operation Christmas Child Special Offering
Thank you Fellowship for your faithful generosity and heart to see the Gospel proclaimed around the world. Last week, $27,000 towards our goal of $38,400 came in for the OCC Packing Party which will be held in October. We still have a little bit to go and you still have time to give!  If you weren’t able to participate last week go to fellowshipconway.org/give or drop by the Connection Center in the Atrium for an envelope after service.

Home Church
Fellowship’s small group ministry connects our community by building deep relationships with other believers through the bonds of Christ. Together you will study God’s Word, pray, and serve with one another. New to Fellowship? Check out Fellowship 101 on September 13, and then find a Home Church suited for you. Join us at the Home Church booth after service and meet Michael Harrison who can help you get connected.
