The Introductory Appeal
Listen to your parents and wise advisors.
They know more than you realize.
(1:8-9)

The Evil Invitation
The enticement of sinners promises great success.
(1:10-14)

The Final Warning
The consequence of sin is self-destructive.
(1:15-19)

The Way of Wisdom:
Listen to your parents and realize that
exploitation of others is ultimately self-destructive.

Next Steps
Express thankfulness in some way for the guidance of your parents to wise advisors in your life.  (This might be a letter or a prayer.)
• Consider the source of your values.  Is your guidance truly coming from wise people who have your best interests at heart?

Home Church Questions
•
Read Proverbs 1:8-19.
•  What was the main point of the message this week?
•  Was there anything new, interesting, insightful, or even unclear from the message?
•  What was your main takeaway from this week’s message?
•  What impact did your parents have on you growing up?  Did you heed their instruction and warnings?
•  Why do young people find it hard to listen to their parents? Is this ever legitimate?
•  The gang in this passage is comprised of bunch of bullies. Talk about bullying.  Have you ever been a bully or experienced bullying yourself?
•  This seems so obvious.  Crime does not pay.  Why does this passage make so much sense?
•  Read Proverbs 1:19 again. In what sense is this usually true—most of the time this happens?  In what sense is this always true—ultimately this is what happens?
