• What is the message of Zechariah?
Conviction: So What?
• Where does this fit?
- Zechariah presents in dramatic fashion (Apocalyptic Genre) the cosmic battle between good and evil culminating in the victory of God. Many of these images are picked up in the Book of
Revelation.
- Zechariah focuses on the future, especially the wonderful time when the Messiah will come and gloriously restore his people (and the nations) to relationship with Him.
- Zechariah presents a panorama of eschatological events with a focus on the fulfillment through Messiah ruling over the nation of Israel (similar to Daniel who focused on the Gentile Nations).
• What should we believe?
- God is in control of the past, present, and future and will triumph in the end.
- The battle is bigger (in scope and intensity) than our eyes can see.
- Messiah will bring God’s promised plan to a culmination in His second coming.
• How should we behave?
Remember the faithfulness of God in the past.
Remain faithful to God in the present.
Retain a solid hope in God’s fulfillment of His promises in the future.
Next Steps
• Recognize and rest in the fact that it is “‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the LORD
Almighty” that all of God’s promises will be fulfilled.

Home Church Questions
• Read Zechariah 14:1-21 (Not, the whole book).
• What about the message captured your attention?
• God exhorted his readers “Do not be like your fathers,” following in their sinful patterns (1:4; 8:14). What unrighteous and harmful patterns have you had to overcome, or need to overcome, from your parents?
• The Hebrew idiom “the apple (literally: “the little man”) of his eye” (2:8) speaks to the great value God places on His people. Why do you think God places such value on you, even with your shortcomings?
• How have the accusations of Satan been used to hinder you in your walk with the Lord? Your background? Your shortcomings? What does God’s response teach you? (3:1-5)
• In what ways have you been “snatched from the fire” of your own bondage like the Jews were snatched from the fire of captivity in Babylon (3:2)?
• The Jews faced an overwhelming challenge to rebuild their lives after their captivity, to which God made his declaration of 4:6. What challenges are you facing now, and how should this verse inform your response to those challenges?
• Zechariah prophesied a coming time when people are attracted to God’s people because “we have heard that God is with you” (8:23). What are some things that reveals to an unbelieving society that God is with us?
• God brought His faithful ones through the fire of refinement in order to bring them closer to Himself (13:9). Describe times in your life when God used trials and testing to bring you closer to Him. What do you appreciate about God from those experiences?
